Family Systems Theory

Our mental health is impacted by the systems that we live within.  When treating a youth, my aim is to incorporate the willing members of the family into treatment.  I also have experience working with teachers, school counselors, psychiatrists, and mentors in the treatment of the youth.  My goal is to improve communication within the family and strengthen the client's support system.

Play Therapy

Our play therapy room was designed to give the individual all the creative tools he or she may need to express their inner world and resolve their inner conflict.  Our play therapy room is open to all clients.

Adolescents and adults are welcome to use this creative space to unblock emotion and allow their creativity to flow again to help them achieve their personal goals.

Sandplay Therapy

First and foremost, I work hard to create a safe space for the individual to come and work in the sand.  The sandtray provides a field for the individual to work through the dramas that are unfolding in their lives, both conscious and unconscious.  There are two trays to work in- a tray with wet sand and a tray with dry sand.  There is an array of figures (animals, humans, landscape pieces, vehicles, etc.) that the individual can use to play out their internal struggle.  For children, sandplay is effective because it allows them to use play, their primary mode of communication, to express themselves and heal their inner wounds.  For adolescents and adults, sandplay allows the individual to drop beneath their everyday mode of verbal communication to get at the core issues that need to be resolved to achieve well-being.
Sandplay was originally developed by Dora Kalff and was heavily influenced by the psychodynamic theory of Carl Jung.

I would be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding my therapeutic methods.
